LIFESTYLE | 7 TIPS FOR MAKING A GOOD BLOG

Muchas veces me preguntáis sobre consejos para empezar un blog o como mejorarlo y por eso he querido hoy hacer esta entrada. Para mí hay siete cosas fundamentales que espero que os sirvan de ayuda. No es nada del otro mundo, algunas de ellas son gustos personales, pero para mí estos factores son importantes.

Many times you ask me about some tips to start a blog or how to improve it and that's why I wanted to make this post today. For me there are seven key things that I hope will be helpful. It's nothing fancy, but for me these are the important facts to have in mind.


1. UN DISEÑO SENCILLO. Los blogs simples, de fondo y colores neutros son más fáciles de leer, sobretodo si se le da importancia a las fotografías. Elegir un color característico de un tono fuerte es buena idea, pero siempre que se utilice de forma moderada en el logo, la cabecera, los títulos o elementos de este tipo. La cabecera también es algo que hay que pensarse mucho y seguramente no salga a la primera. Yo a lo largo de los seis años que llevo con el blog he cambiado tres o cuatro veces de cabecera y he ido simplificándola cada vez más. Que no os asuste tener un blog "soso", haced un blog de diseño elegante, lo que cuenta es el contenido.

A SIMPLE DESIGN. Simple blogs, neutral background and neutral colors are easier to read, especially if the photographs are important. Choosing a characteristic and strong color is also a good idea, but always if it is used moderately in the logo, header, titles or elements like this. The header is also something important to think for so long and certainly  it will not be out at first. Along the six years writing this blog I've changed the header three or four times  and I've always simplifyed it a bit more. Do not panic about having a "dull" blog, make a stylish design, what matters is the content.

BIG PHOTOS. This is important. Big photos and always keeping the same width in vertical and horizontal ones. This makes everything clear, brings quality and attracts attention. A good width size could be between 600 and 800 px.
3. DOMINIO PROPIO. El dominio marca la diferencia. Un .com o .es hace que nuestro blog empiece a ser profesional. Es muy poco lo que cuesta mantener un dominio y merece la pena. Se contrata por internet y se paga una cantidad muy pequeña al año.

YOUR OWN DOMAIN. The domain makes the difference. The .com end makes it  professional. Maintaining it is not difficult and is worth it. You can buy it online for a very small amount per year.
4. EMAIL. Crear un email exclusivo te ayuda a organizarte. Es necesario tener un email de contacto asociado al blog para que aquellos quienes estén interesados en colaborar tengan fácil acceso a ti y tu no te vuelves loca separando emails. Todo lo referente al blog tiene su bandeja de entrada.

EMAIL. Creating an email helps you to keep it organized. You need to have a contact email associated to your blog for those who are interested in collaborating. It is an easy access to you and you do not get crazy separating emails. The blog mails has its inbox.
5. REDES SOCIALES. Asocia tus redes sociales como twitter, instagram, una página de Facebook, pinterest...Te ayudará a difundir las novedades de tu blog y además te acercan más a la gente.

SOLCIAL NETWORKS. Associate your social networks like twitter, instagram, a Facebook page, pinterest ... It will help to share the news of your blog, plus you are closer to people.
6. ENFOQUE PERSONAL. A parte de todo esto, lo más importante para mí es esto. Que compartas lo que te gusta, que cada día pongas un poquito más de ti y que tu blog sea la forma de compartir tus intereses y de almacenar aquello que te va pasando día a día. Cuando recorres las entradas antiguas hasta llegar casi a los inicios te parece mentira lo que has cambiado sin darte cuenta y es muy gratificante ver el trabajo que has ido haciendo poco a poco.

KEEP IT PERSONAL. Besides all that, the most important thing for me is this. Share what you like, every day bring a little bit more about you. Your blog is a way to share your interests and to store what is happening everyday. When I walk through old posts, almost to the beginnings, It is so awesome to see that I've changed so much and is very gratifying to see the work I've been doing through the yeras.
7. LLEVARLO AL DÍA. Esto es más complicado. Es verdad que va por épocas, yo trato de llevarlo bastante al día pero al final hay temporadas que te absorben otros aspectos de tu vida y no se puede. De todas formas siempre suelo tener un ratito para el blog. No lo convirtáis en una obligación, yo siempre me lo tomé como un hobby.

UPDATING. This is more complicated. It is true that time changes, I try to keep it updated day a day but in the end there are times you are absorb by other aspects of your life. Anyway I usually have a little time for the blog. Do not turn it into an obligation, I always took it as a hobby.
