CUZCO | PERU TRAVEL GUIDE

He vuelto enamorada de esta ciudad. No me la esperaba tan alucinante, la verdad, de hecho una de las primeras cosas que pensé fue: "yo me vendría aquí a vivir un año". Fue nuestro primer destino y nuestra primera impresión de Perú y a lo largo del viaje volvimos varias veces, como punto base para el resto de viajes por el país.

Cuzco, o Cusco, es una ciudad enorme y con un centro histórico espectacular. Lo que más me gustó de la ciudad es la imagen al atardecer. Desde la Plaza de Armas se ven a lo lejos las luces de las casitas que suben por las montañas de alrededor.

Me sorprendió para bien esta ciudad, la encontré muy agradable, acogedora y segura. Tratan genial al turista aunque, eso sí, te intentan vender excursiones, masajes, o cualquier recuerdo a cada paso que das. Pero yo siempre decía con una sonrisa " No muchas gracias" y no insistían, la gente es muy educada. 

Hay que tener en cuenta que está a 3400 m de altitud y yo el primer día noté la altura. Me dolía bastante la cabeza y faltaba el oxígeno, sobretodo al hacer esfuerzos. Poco a poco te acostumbras pero sí que fue un choque. Sin embargo Miki estaba perfectamente...supongo que depende de la persona.

Tiene muchísimo encanto, por todas partes venden mantas, jerséis, mochilas típicas...En cuzco mi chaqueta de Desigual causó sensación. Fuimos de compras y en todos los puestos me decían que era preciosa, preguntaban si la había comprado allí, en Peru, y cuando les respondía que la había traído de España no daban crédito. Me dijeron que ellos hacían esos bordados en la zona de Puno, pero nunca lo habían visto en chaqueta, a si que le dije que cogieran ideas!

I am in love with this city. I did not expect it will be so amazing, really, in fact one of the first things I thought was: "I would live here for a year." It was our first destination and our first impression of Peru and we came back several times, as a base point for the rest of the trips around the country.
Cuzco, or Cusco, is a huge city with a spectacular historical center. What I liked most about the city is the sunset image. From the Plaza de Armas you can see in the distance the lights of the houses that climb the surrounding mountains.
I was surprised, I found it very pleasant, cozy and safe. They treat the tourist great although, yes, they try to sell day trips, massages, or any souvenir every time. But I always said with a smile "No muchas gracias" and they did not insist, people are very polite.

You have to have in mind that it is 3400 m above sea level and I noticed the height on the first day. My head hurt a lot and oxygen was not reaching my brain enough, especially when making efforts. Little by little you get used to it but it was a shock. However Miki felt perfectly ... I guess it depends on the person.
It has a lot of charm, everywhere they sell blankets, sweaters, backpacks ... In Cuzco my Desigual jacket was a success. We went shopping and in all the stores they told me that it was beautiful, they asked if I had bought it there, in Peru, and when I answered that I had brought it from Spain they did not give credit. They told me they made these flowers in the Puno area, but they had never seen it in a jacket, so I told them to take ideas!

El Barrio de San Blas es el que más me gustó, es la parte bohemia con calles empedradas y miles de placitas con cafés, restaurantes y galerías de arte. Allí encontramos un tapiz / alfombra de lana de alpaca precioso que nos trajimos a casa como recuerdo del viaje.

El Mercado de San Pedro fue otro de mis sitios favoritos, allí puedes comprar a un precio super asequible “jugos” de frutas, chocolate de mil sabores (yo me lleve varios pero sin duda el más espectacular es el chocolate de sal de Maras), hoja de coca para el mal de altura, frutas etc.

PLACES OF INTEREST

San Blas neighborhood is the one I liked the most, it is the bohemian part with cobbled streets and thousands of squares with cafes, restaurants and art galleries. There we found a beautiful carpet of alpaca wool that we brought home as a souvenir of the trip.
The Mercado de San Pedro was another of my favorite places, there you can buy at a super affordable price "juices" of fruits, chocolate of a thousand flavors (I take several but without a doubt the most spectacular is the one with salt from Maras), coca leaf for altitude sickness, fruits etc.

También nos gustó mucho la visita al Templo Inca de Qorikancha, allí nos explicaron por primera vez la manera de construir tan extraordinaria y complicada de los incas. Para sus templos cortaban los bloques de piedra con varios ángulos y encajaban perfectamente unas con otras a pesar de que las caras no eran lisas. E este templo se puede apreciar como los españoles en la conquista mantienen la parte baja de las construcciones incas y sobre estas implantan su arquitectura colonial. Es una mezcla preciosa y te explican la cultura y la ideología inca que es interesantísima.

We also enjoyed the visit to the Inca Temple of Qorikancha, where our guide explained us  the extraordinary way of how to build of the Incas. For their temples they cut the stone blocks with various angles and fit perfectly with each other even though the faces were not smooth. At this temple can be appreciated the spanish conquest that maintains the lower part of the Inca constructions and implant their colonial architecture over it. It is a beautiful mix and he also explained the Inca culture and ideology that is very interesting.
